For more than two decades, Jake Shimabukuro has expanded the vocabulary of the ‘ukulele, transforming it into a vehicle for everything from intricate solo compositions to sweeping, cinematic works. This summer, he returns to the road with Tradewinds & Rainbows, a limited West Coast run that brings together a deeply personal circle of collaborators: Henry Kapono and Pure Heart.

Rooted in shared history and musical lineage, the tour brings Kapono—one of Hawai‘i’s most respected singer-songwriters—back to the stage with Shimabukuro following the duo’s warmly received 2024 performances. It also marks a milestone for Pure Heart, the trio Shimabukuro formed in high school, which will make its first appearances outside Hawai‘i as part of the run.

Shimabukuro brings a strong sense of musical reunion and collaboration to the stage, sharing the spotlight with both Kapono and Pure Heart. The concert is structured as a dynamic, evolving experience, where he joins each act multiple times, blending their distinct styles into a cohesive, island-inspired sound. These recurring collaborations highlight their shared musical roots and history—especially Shimabukuro’s early years with Pure Heart—resulting in a performance that feels like an ongoing musical conversation.

“I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am for the Tradewinds & Rainbows Tour!” says Shimabukuro. “Getting to share the stage with legend Henry Kapono and play with my first band Pure Heart just makes it that much more special. There’s something magical about bringing this tour to the West Coast—a perfect kick off to summer. It’s going to be pure joy and aloha!”

Pure Heart will join Jake for the June 6  performance, while the full Tradewinds & Rainbows lineup featuring Jake Shimabukuro, Henry Kapono, and Pure Heart will appear together from June 9 through June 14 at select venues across the West Coast.

“Jake, I love him,” adds Kapono. “I’m honored. Touring with Jake is so easy, musical and fun. He’s authentic, he’s kind and a great energy. He’s got a great crew of people and a very loyal following. I look forward to this tour.”

Earlier this year, Jake released Calm Seas, a collection of 13 original compositions, with 12 additional versions for the digital album. Each track is crafted to evoke cinematic landscapes and meditative soundscapes. The project showcases Shimabukuro’s unmistakable ability to push the ‘ukulele beyond convention, delivering performances that are both technically breathtaking and deeply personal.
